Counseling Philosophy

A solid therapeutic relationship is unlike any other you’ll ever have – not quite a friend, not your doctor, definitely not mom, maybe sometimes like your drama coach or your personal trainer. Sometimes you’ll laugh, talk about the weather, and other times you’ll cry and cuss and process pain. Often times you’ll do both in one hour. Overall, therapy is a collaborative effort to enact change in your life, to help you feel unstuck, to help you achieve goals, and to achieve a deep understanding of yourself.

Nick is a Baltimore transplant by way of Frederick County, and a stint in Shepherdstown, WV. Nick identifies as a cis, queer/gay man who participates in polyamorous/CNM dating, and with nontraditional spirituality practices (tarot, meditation, some herbs and spells, spiritualism). Nick is an avid gardener and farmer’s market attendee and is a community-oriented kinda guy. You’ll probably see him out and about at a coffee shop or bar, a park, or around the city in creative spaces.

Nick believes his job is to work himself out of a job. This means that you will one day move on from needing a therapist because you’ll be able to handle whatever life throws at you. Nick primarily practices Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT), has training in Somatic Experiencing (completed the beginning level), and is generally inspired by the Poly Vagal Theory, and holistic health and wellness modalities. Nick is also happy to announce he is offering the Safe and Sound Protocol for trauma and overstimulation, as well as other conditions and symptoms.

Nick is a graduate of Shippensburg University’s Counseling and College Student Personnel Master’s program. During his three years of study, Nick practiced counseling in multiple settings including the Counseling Center at Shepherd University, Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (formerly Shenandoah Women’s Center), and the Career and Community Engagement Center at Shippensburg U. After Graduating in 2017, Nick joined the In-Home Intervention Team at Baltimore County Crisis Response.

Octavia has been a resident of Baltimore for over 24 years and recently obtained her master’s degree in clinical professional counseling. She identifies as a black, queer/bisexual woman who enjoys experiencing new adventures through hobbies such as international travel and immersion in nature. She takes pride in her familial and social relationships with her community of people and the development of those relationships over her life.

Octavia works with young adults (16+), adults, and couples who may be experiencing difficulty managing stress brought on by symptoms of depression, anxiety, relationships with others/ourselves, trauma, and/or recent life changes. She uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as her primary modality of treatment with clients, but she also integrates Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques into her work with clients as deemed appropriate for individualized care. Octavia works with clients who are motivated in the therapeutic process of developing a deeper understanding of their experiences and being guided through the exploration of their values.

Therapy with Octavia might be a good fit if you are searching for a judgment-free space where you can be heard, supported, gently challenged, and guided toward uncovering new perspectives. Octavia’s goal with clients is to work collaboratively so that you can work towards a place where you are thriving—and not just surviving.

Professional Counselor

Daniel Puchala, LCPC

Daniel Profile Pic Work 2025.png

Mr. Puchala is an experienced counselor, who uses an integrative counseling approach that blends a number of theories and techniques. At the core of his practice, is the principle that each client is unique, and deserves a highly customized treatment plan.

Other significant areas of his expertise are in stress management, relationship management, neuroscience, mindfulness-based approaches, psychopharmacology, developmental psychology, spirituality, and health psychology.

Mr. Puchala focuses on providing instruction for specific techniques that empower the client. Once an individual is empowered with some techniques to reduce their overall stress level, and to gain insight into the nature of their challenges, they make progress toward their goals. In essence, technique and skill set development, preventative self-care, targeted lifestyle modification, and psycho-educational themes are all essential to his work with clients.

Mr. Puchala places emphasis on the client-therapist alliance. He believes that it is imperative to collaborate with the client to establish goals for the work to be done together, and for the client to see the Counselor as a part of a team effort to achieve results, because a counseling relationship requires openness to change and the cultivation of new perspectives in a safe, but exploratory way.

Mr. Puchala is committed to practicing unconditional positive regard for every client he works with, ultimately leading them towards a growth mindset. However, he meet clients where they are, and recognizes that each person is moving towards their goals at their own pace and in their own creative way. He seeks to help clients to accomplish their goals effectively, to be genuine, to manifest their true potential, and to find adaptive ways to thrive.

Mr. Puchala has experience working with adults of all ages and with children, adolescents, and teens. He is only able to accept UHC/Optum, Evernorth/Cigna and JH EHP plans.

Professional Counselor

Reese Reed, LCPC

Email: Reese@enactcounselingservices.com

Hi there! I’m Reese, an out and proud trans man dedicated to uplifting the queer community through affirming, compassionate mental health care. I earned my Master’s in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Northwestern University and am always working to grow my clinical skills and lived experience to better support my clients.

I work with individuals who are questioning or exploring their gender and sexuality, as well as those navigating complex life transitions. I’m deeply passionate about providing safe, gender-affirming care and enjoy supporting clients with ADHD in building task-management skills and learning how to move through the world while honoring their neurodivergence. I also work with individuals navigating depression, anxiety, and PTSD.

In addition to individual therapy, I really enjoy helping couples heal, reconnect, and strengthen their relationships. I strive to create a space that feels welcoming, comfortable, and safe—one you can actually look forward to coming back to—while still supporting us in doing the hard (but worthwhile) work of growth and change. I believe everyone deserves to be heard and seen, and I’m committed to collaborating with my clients to help them reach their goals.

Outside of the therapy room, I’m a passionate advocate for human rights and social justice, and I bring this lens into the way I hold space with clients. And while therapy can be serious at times, I believe there’s always room for humor—so expect thoughtful conversations, meaningful work, and maybe a laugh or two along the way.
