Meet the Team

ABOUT OCTAVIA Octavia has been a resident of Baltimore for over 24 years and recently obtained her master’s degree in clinical professional counseling. She identifies as a black, queer/bisexual woman who enjoys experiencing new adventures through hobbies such as international travel and immersion in nature. She takes pride in her familial and social relationships with her community of people and the development of those relationships over her life. Octavia works with young adults (16+), adults, and couples who may be experiencing difficulty managing stress brought on by symptoms of depression, anxiety, relationships with others/ourselves, trauma and/or recent life changes. She uses Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) as her primary modality of treatment with clients, but she also integrates Interpersonal Therapy (IPT) and Cognitive Behavioral Therapy (CBT) techniques into her work with clients as deemed appropriate for individualized care. Octavia works with clients who are motivated in the therapeutic process of developing a deeper understanding of their experiences and being guided through the exploration of their own personal values. Therapy with Octavia might be a good fit if you are searching for a judgement-free space where you can be heard, supported, gently challenged, and guided towards uncovering new perspectives. Octavia’s goal with clients is to work collaboratively so that you can work towards a place where you are thriving—and not just surviving. ABOUT NICK Nick is a Baltimore transplant by way of Frederick County, and a stint in Shepherdstown, WV. Nick identifies as cis, queer/gay man who participates in polyamorous/CNM dating, and nontraditional spirituality practices (tarot, meditation, some herbs and spells, spiritualism). Nick is an avid gardener and farmer’s market attendee and is a community oriented kinda guy. You’ll probably see him out and about at a coffee shop or bar, a park, or biking around the city. Counseling Philosophy A solid therapeutic relationship is unlike any other you’ll ever have – not quite a friend, not your doctor, definitely not mom, maybe sometimes like your drama coach or your personal trainer. Sometimes you’ll laugh, talk about the weather, and other times you’ll cry and cuss and process pain. Often times you’ll do both in one hour. Overall, therapy is a collaborative effort to enact change in your life, to help you feel unstuck, to help you achieve goals, and to achieve a deep understanding of yourself. Nick believes his job is to work himself out of a job. This means that you will one day move on from needing a therapist because you’ll be able to handle whatever life throws at you. Nick primarily practices Acceptance and Commitment Therapy (ACT) is training in Somatic Experiencing (completed the beginning level), and is inspired by the Poly Vagal Theory, and holistic health and wellness modalities. Education and Experience Nick is a graduate of Shippensburg University’s Counseling and College Student Personnel Master’s program. During his three years of study, Nick practiced counseling in multiple settings including the Counseling Center at Shepherd University, Eastern Panhandle Empowerment Center (formerly Shenandoah Women’s Center), and the Career and Community Engagement Center at Shippensburg U. After Graduating in 2017, Nick joined the In-Home Intervention Team at Baltimore County Crisis Response.
